American Idol Expands with New Pre-Show

American Idol is extending its reach even further, beginning Tuesday.

Starting Tuesday, Idol will put on an hour-long, live pre-show for all remaining episodes this season, to air on the TV Guide Channel. (The core show, American Idol, will now air twice a week on FOX until a final winner is selected May 24.)

Last week it was reported that the FOX Reality cable channel would debut a new series this Thursday, American Idol Extra, to offer a look onto "the backstage drama of what really happens" after contestants are voted off.

The pre-show, Idol Tonight, will be hosted by former Idol finalist Kimberly Caldwell and one-time Popstars contestant Rosanna Tavarez, and will feature appearances by ejected contestants and past "Idol" stars, plus interviews with vocal coaches, casting agents and industry movers and shakers.

Exclusive footage, including auditions, outtakes and post-performance confessions, will also appear, a show publicist tells the Associated Press.
